District 6 – Willamette Valley South - Oregon Oldtime Fiddlers' Association

Welcome to District 6, one of OOTFA’s largest and most active districts! Covering the southern Willamette Valley, our district includes Eugene, Springfield, Corvallis, Albany, Lebanon, and the many towns and farming communities in between.

About Our District

The southern Willamette Valley is the agricultural heartland of Oregon — a lush, green landscape of farms, orchards, and small towns framed by the Coast Range to the west and the Cascades to the east. It’s also home to two major universities (University of Oregon and Oregon State), giving our district a wonderful mix of longtime valley residents and newcomers from around the world.

District 6 has a long history of active music-making. Our members span the full range of oldtime instruments — fiddle, guitar, banjo, mandolin, bass, dulcimer, and more. We’re known for our welcoming attitude toward beginners and our commitment to passing down traditional tunes to the next generation.

What Makes Us Special

District 6 stands out for its educational resources. We maintain an extensive sheet music library with hundreds of tunes, and our YouTube channel features fiddle lessons and tune demonstrations that benefit players across the entire state. Our scholarship program helps young musicians get started with instruments and instruction. West Cascades Fiddle Camp is sponsored by District 6.

The Eugene-Corvallis corridor is a hotbed of traditional music, and District 6 is right at the center of it. Our members include retired teachers, farmers, professors, craftspeople, and folks from every walk of life — all united by a love of oldtime music.

District 6 is fortunate to have several skilled luthiers and instrument repair specialists in the area, including builders in Eugene, Springfield, and Corvallis. Ask any of our members for recommendations!
