Welcome to District 8, where the Willamette Valley meets the Oregon Coast! Our district covers a wonderful cross-section of Oregon, from the state capital of Salem through the wine country of McMinnville and Yamhill County, and out to the coastal communities of Newport, Lincoln City, and Tillamook.
About Our District
District 8 sits at the geographic heart of western Oregon. Salem, our state capital, anchors the eastern side of the district with its historic downtown and thriving arts community. Head west through the rolling hills of Polk and Yamhill Counties — passing through some of Oregon’s finest wine country — and you’ll reach the Central Coast, where Newport, Lincoln City, and Tillamook offer a completely different flavor of Oregon life.
This diversity is one of our district’s greatest strengths. Our members include valley farmers, state workers, coastal fishermen, wine country residents, and retirees from all walks of life. What brings them together? A shared love of oldtime fiddle music and the fellowship that comes with playing together.
What Makes Us Special
District 8’s fourth-Saturday jams are a highlight of the month for our members. The sessions are known for their friendly, inclusive atmosphere — experienced players and beginners sit side by side, and everyone gets a chance to call a tune. It’s traditional music-making at its best.
Our members perform throughout the district at senior centers, community events, and festivals. Whether it’s a summer concert in a Salem park, a performance at a McMinnville community center, or a jam session with ocean breezes blowing through the windows, District 8 keeps the oldtime music tradition alive across a beautiful stretch of Oregon.
Visiting the mid-valley or the Central Coast? Come find us on a fourth Saturday — we’d love to have you join the circle.
