Welcome to District 7, OOTFA’s home base in the Portland metropolitan area and the Northern Oregon Coast! Our district covers the most populated region of Oregon, from the urban neighborhoods of Portland to the coastal communities of Astoria, Seaside, and Tillamook.
About Our District
District 7 brings oldtime music to the big city — and beyond. While Portland is known worldwide for its vibrant music scene, District 7 proves that oldtime fiddle music is alive and well right alongside the indie rock clubs and jazz venues. Our members come from all across the metro area — Portland, Beaverton, Lake Oswego, Oregon City, Gresham, and beyond — as well as from the beautiful Northern Coast communities.
Despite being in Oregon’s most urban setting, District 7 maintains the same warm, down-home atmosphere that characterizes OOTFA jam sessions across the state. When the fiddles start playing, it doesn’t matter if you’re in downtown Portland or a grange hall in Tillamook — the music creates the same sense of community and connection.
What Makes Us Special
District 7’s location in the Portland metro gives us unique opportunities to introduce oldtime music to new audiences. Many of our members discovered OOTFA after moving to Oregon from other parts of the country, drawn by the welcoming community and the chance to learn traditional tunes.
We maintain a list of songs commonly played at our jams — a great resource for newcomers who want to learn the standards. Whether you’re a longtime Portland resident or just visiting, you’re welcome to drop in on a District 7 jam. We have players at every skill level, and we love helping beginners get started.
From the bridges of Portland to the beaches of the North Coast, District 7 keeps the oldtime tradition alive in Oregon’s most diverse region.
